The Joint Fires and Effects Trainer System
is a prototype immersive, location-based trainer designed to hone the skills of
the warfighter.
JFETS features three mixed reality theaters to create an immersive virtual reality
training system created for the US Army Artillery School by the Institute for
Creative Technologies (ICT) to train forward observers in various environments.
The three environments include a Combat Air Support Module (CASM) that simulates a
nearly 360 degree field of view around and above the trainee to train Combat Air
Support (CAS) missions, an Urban Terrain Module (UTM) to train artillery and close
air support in an urban environment, and an Open Terrain Module (OTM) to train
artillery and close air support in open terrain.
